Imaging Center

Our Imaging Center offers digital screening mammography and bone density testing in Suite 280 of our building (275 Collier Road). Our center is accredited by the FDA and certified by the American College of Radiology. In addition to our Monday-Friday appointments, the center is also open on Saturdays for mammography.

Mammography

A mammogram is an x-ray of the breast tissue used to detect breast disease in women with no disease symptoms. Our registered technicians gently compress the breast between two flat surfaces for just a short while to obtain the images. We usually take four images, although we may require more for women with breast implants. We follow the American Cancer Society’s guidelines, recommending women age 40 and over have a screening mammogram each year. If you are at a high risk for developing cancer, your provider may make additional recommendations. Schedule your mammogram through your provider’s office.

Bone Density Screening

A bone density test uses very low radiation to look for signs of osteoporosis, a condition where bones become brittle and fragile due to loss of protein and mineral content. The test measures bone mass in the hips and spine, and is a quick and painless scanning procedure conducted while you remain fully clothed. We recommend the test for postmenopausal women age 50 and older, or for younger women with a family history of osteoporosis. It is also a useful diagnostic tool for women who break a bone after age 50 or have other healthcare conditions that could lead to weakening bones.
